Painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, we offer classes for all ages.
About Our Classes
Developing creativity and self-confidence are at the core of our teaching. We deliver after-school classes and a Saturday art club in the term time and art workshops in the half term, Easter, summer and Christmas holidays.
We follow a fine art interdisciplinary approach in painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, sculpture and printmaking. Our classes are project based, normally inspired by an artist or art movement, so there is a structure to the learning but the children are free create within the project, building knowledge and skills and applying them to obtain their own outcomes.
Class sizes are up to 15 students for 1.5 hours.
Class Details:
- Small class sizes of 15 students.
- Three age groups: 5-11, 12-15, and 3–4.
- All materials provided.
- Electric pottery wheel and electric kiln.
- We offer GCSE-level portfolio preparation.
- No experience necessary!
Childrens’ Classes
Tuesday Nursery Art Fun
Infant, toddler and pre-school art sessions based on Reggio Emilia approach. Children can explore art materials in a variety of ways to develop confidence and have fun!

Adult Classes
Our classes are designed to inspire and support your creative journeys to expand your artistic horizon. We embrace a range of art forms, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, and life drawing which encourages a rigorous approach to creative experimentation.
Each student will receive individual attention from tutors through small class sizes or one-to-one bespoke sessions and have access to an array of materials.
Classes welcome anyone from 18 years of age and tuition fees vary according to course type. Highgate Art School aims to nurture aesthetic sensitivity and encourage students to develop a personal art style. We offer students weekly 2-hour long classes to ensure an immersive experience and enable an invigorating atmosphere to develop in the art studio.
With the guidance of locally based professionals, you will explore contemporary and traditional techniques whilst also developing contextualised knowledge around a history of artists to support your creative intentions.
Linocut and Collage
Expand your practise of print making with the hands-on process of linocut, dry point, monotype and paper cut stencil to produce original and unique pieces. Due to the unpredictable nature of printing, you will embark on an enthralling journey of experimentation with a range of mechanical techniques and tools.

Creative Clay
Delve into the creative potential of clay hand building, modelling and decoration techniques to construct and experiment with domestic and sculptural forms. With the application of texture, pattern, and glaze, you will explore the physical possibilities of ceramics to cultivate an inspired understanding of the art of pottery.

Painting Project
Develop an imaginative understanding of paint application to cultivate inspired compositions through pattern, shape, and tone. Students are encouraged to evoke the introspective and narratorial intentions behind their paintings through an individual exploration of colour mixing and impasto using oil painting, acrylic and more.

Life Drawing
Explore the subtleties of the human physique through weekly observational drawing with life models to create a visually inspired illustration of experience. By experimenting with various art mediums, students are invited to dive into the nuances of anatomy, movement, and expression to challenge the boundaries of the human form.

Workshops
Each day offers a new opportunity for experimentation which invites children aged 5 –12 years to engage in invigorating art processes. In the autumn workshops at Highgate Art School, we strive to help students expand and explore their creative potential through an enthralling array of activities, ranging from sessions like Mosaic Collage to Painting Paradise.
The classes are designed to cultivate visual sensitivity and provide a stimulating setting for students to be fully immersed in inspired approaches to various techniques and mediums. With the guidance from supportive professionals, students will both nurture their artistic capabilities and thrive from an enthusiastic atmosphere.
We encourage students to develop an individual understanding of art practise so that they can delve into expression, experience, and the environment through multidimensional forms.

Pottery and Prosecco

Relax with a glass of wine and some clay and get creative through a variety of slip decoration techniques.
Develop the creative possibilities of clay hand building, modelling and decoration techniques to construct 3D and 2D objects and apply texture, pattern and glaze. All materials (and prosecco) included.
